Mueller had been ticketed for MIP

By the Lincoln Journal Star

Friday, Sep 19, 2008 - 08:08:14 pm CDT

Three days before she was benched for NU’s volleyball match at Kansas State, Nebraska sophomore outside hitter Tara Mueller was ticketed by Lincoln police for being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Officer Katie Flood of the Lincoln Police Department said the 19-year-old was standing in the yard of a house in the 800 block of Charleston Street when approached by an officer investigating several reports of disturbances in the area early Sunday morning.

Police observed that Mueller had red, bloodshot, watery eyes, impaired balance and slurred speech. Flood said that Mueller’s blood-alcohol level was 0.155 percent, according to a preliminary breath test.

Mueller was cited and released, and since the incident, the citation has gone to pre-trial diversion.

Both Mueller and fellow sophomore Kayla Banwarth sat out Wednesday’s match at Kansas State because of disciplinary reasons. Both are expected to return to the lineup when second-ranked Nebraska plays host to No. 3 Texas tonight.
