Nee, Strickland to be inducted into Nebraska hoops hall
By the Lincoln Journal Star
Danny Nee and Erick Strickland helped lead Nebraska to the program’s only national tournament title in men’s basketball -- the 1996 NIT.
Thirteen years later, the coach and player are being inducted into the Nebraska Basketball Hall of Fame.
Nee, NU’s winningest coach, and Strickland, the MVP of the 1996 NIT, will be honored Friday night at a sold-out banquet in Lincoln. They will also be introduced at halftime of Saturday’s home game against Kansas State.
Nee won 254 games, more than any other Nebraska coach. He led the Huskers to five NCAA Tournament appearances and six NIT berths. Of the program’s 12 20-win seasons, seven came under Nee — including his first season, when Nebraska won 21 games.
Strickland, a Bellevue native, helped Nebraska to 79 victories from 1992-93 to 1995-96, including three 20-win seasons. He ranks third in Nebraska history in games played, fourth in three-pointers (179), fifth in assists (414) and second in steals (257). He played nine years in the NBA.
