3 things to ponder on game day: NU vs. Baylor

By BRIAN CHRISTOPHERSON / Lincoln Journal Star

Saturday, Oct 31, 2009 - 12:58:21 pm CDT

1. Helu’s charge

Roy Helu carried the ball five times last week and fumbled twice. True freshman Dontrayevous Robinson carried 15 times and fumbled once. Who sees the rock more Saturday?

Prediction: Robinson. Helu took Nebraska’s poor offensive showing on his (banged-up) shoulders this week and Bo Pelini challenged him by saying he played tentative. Helu is the best back on this team without question, but he could use three weeks off to heal right about now. I think he’ll start, but also anticipate a heavy dose of Robinson — especially if the score turns comfortably in NU’s favor.

  • 2. Turnover trouble

At some point, you had to think Nebraska’s eight turnovers last week were as much due to the mental aspect as the physical. How does that carry over?

Prediction: There’s no way (we think) the turnover situation can be any worse. Nebraska players were put through a bevy of ball-security drills this week. I’m not saying there won’t be a turnover this week, but expect Husker players to hold the football like it’s a newborn Saturday.

    3. Alex the Great

On a lighter note, how many times will Alex Henery pin Baylor inside its 10-yard line?

Prediction: At least once. The junior is amazing at killing the ball deep in the other team’s territory. It almost seems like he has the football on a string. At least three times this year he’s had punts hit inside the 5 then take a direct turn out of bounds.
