Huskers sweep Red Raiders in Lubbock

Texas Tech’s 50th consecutive Big 12 Conference loss was certainly no milestone for the Nebraska volleyball team.
Looking to turn a corner as the calendar rolls to the final month of the regular season, the Huskers instead reverted to what has gotten them into trouble all too often.
“Errors and errors and more errors,” NU coach John Cook said.
The No. 8 Huskers’ 25-12, 25-20, 25-20 win Wednesday in Lubbock, Texas, marked only the third conference match where the overmatched Red Raiders (2-18, 0-11) were able to muster at least 20 points in two different sets. And it came only two days before Nebraska (16-5, 9-3) will challenge second-ranked Texas.
“I just wanted us to play well because we’ve practiced so well,” Cook said. “That’s why I’m frustrated.
“It’s hard to get any momentum, to get into a rhythm, when you just take yourself out of it like we did at times.”
Freshman Hannah Werth had 15 kills and Tara Mueller added 11 for Nebraska, which rested senior Kori Cooper. Amanda Dowdy had 14 of Texas Tech’s 29 kill.
Elsewhere, No. 9 Iowa State overcame two match-point opportunities for No. 22 Baylor and edged the Bears 16-14 in the fifth set. Texas, meanwhile, swept 25th-ranked Texas A&M to stay unbeaten ahead of Friday’s televised showdown with the Huskers.
“We’ve been looking forward to this,” Mueller said following Wednesday’s match. “We’ve got a day to get ready to come out and play our best.”
