By the Lincoln Journal Star

Before Nebraska and Oklahoma kicked off Saturday, the Husker football team had just 11 known commitments to its 2010 class.

By Wednesday afternoon, the Huskers had 16.

Yes, NU has made plenty of recruiting hay since the 10-3 win against Oklahoma.

  • The latest commitment comes from Chase Harper, a tight end for Navarro (Texas) Junior College, which is ranked No. 1 in the country in the juco ranks.

The 6-foot-6, 245-pound tight end becomes the 16th commitment in a class that probably has room for just two or three more.

“I like how they use their tight ends,” Harper said. “They play with multiple tight ends and I think I can help them with vertical routes. I can catch a lot of balls in that offense. This feels real good.”

Tight ends coach Ron Brown was the lead recruiter of Harper. Brown had been recruiting him even two years ago when he was playing prep ball in Corsicana, Texas.

“I was listening to Coach Brown. He’s a good coach and a good person, period,” Harper said. “And on my trip to Lincoln, I had a blast.”

Harper visited Nebraska for the 300th-sellout game against Louisiana-Lafayette. He is given four stars by Rivals.com and three by Scout.

He also had offers from Kansas State, Baylor, Iowa State and Miami.

Harper will have three years to play three when he arrives in Lincoln.

Of Nebraska’s commitments, there are six defensive linemen, two cornerbacks, two wide receivers, two offensive linemen, one quarterback, one safety, one tight end and one athlete.

NU coach Bo Pelini said Tuesday he’d probably like to add an offensive lineman to the list.
