3 things to ponder on game day: NU vs. Kansas State

By BRIAN CHRISTOPHERSON / Lincoln Journal Star

Cody watch

Does Cody Green play Saturday?

Prediction: No, unless Zac Lee is really struggling. I don’t believe in getting a guy snaps just to get him snaps in a game like this. That’s not to say Green’s not capable, and shouldn’t be called on if this offense goes nowhere in the first half. But with the North title on the line, this is no night to play musical chairs at quarterback.

Rex returns

How many touches will Rex Burkhead have in his return?

Prediction: Yes, the true freshman is back after missing five games with a hairline fracture in his foot. His return adds some depth. And from all accounts, he’s looked quite good in practice since coming back. But remember: He had only 31 touches in the first five games. Roy Helu’s still the guy here. The safe bet is Burkhead handles the ball somewhere between five and 10 times Saturday.

Dialing Niles

Niles Paul had four catches of more than 35 yards last week. Will he have at least one of that distance Saturday?

Prediction: Yes. The new fondness Nebraska has for the I-formation is perfect for Paul. It allows him, in many cases, to get one-on-one coverage on the outside. With his physical gifts, how can you not like throwing a few deep to him like last week and seeing what he can do for you? Here’s guessing Paul makes at least one major play in this game, if not more.
