Hooper headlines big NU recruiting class

Alliance senior Jordan Hooper headlines a five-player recruiting class that Nebraska women’s basketball coach Connie Yori labels as one that gives the Huskers added “size and athleticism across the board.”
As a junior, the 6-2 Hooper averaged 23.2 points, 14.2 rebounds, 4.6 steals and blocks while earning a spot on the Journal Star’s Super-State team.
“Jordan is one of the best players to ever come out of our state,” Yori said. “She is extremely athletic and versatile.”
Hooper, who gave an oral commitment to Yori in April after also being recruited to play volleyball for the Huskers, will be joined next season by:
— Adrianna Maurer, a 6-3 forward/center from Shawnee Mission, Kan., who led her team to the Class 5A state title.
— Katie Simon, a 6-2 forward from the Sacramento suburb of Roseville, Calif. Last season, Simon averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game.
— Rebecca Woodberry, a 5-10 guard who led her Phoenix team to a state title in Arizona's second-largest class. Woodberry earned first-team all-state honors after averaging 23.1 points while hitting 44 percent of her three-pointers, and 8.1 rebounds.
— Kellie McCann-Smith, a 5-9 guard from Clarkston, Wash., also a first-team all-state performer after averaging 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
“Obviously, we needed a great recruiting class to replace the six seniors we expect to lose at the end of this season,” York said. “I couldn’t be more pleased with this class because it is loaded with talent, character and potential.”
