It was a day full of social media Friday for the Nebraska women's gymnastics team.
Despite having to face No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 20 Minnesota and Centenary in a quadrangular at Norman, Okla., later in the day, the Huskers spent most Friday having a little fun.
The No. 9 Huskers watched a motivational video titled "How great I am," as well spending time on Twitter.
The tweets about how great Nebraska is apparently worked, as the Huskers defeated the Sooners 196.750-196.475. Minnesota (194.550) was third and Centenary fourth (188.60).
"I love the energy level of this team. It was just there the whole day," NU coach Dan Kendig said. "We watched a video and the girls tweeted how great they were. I think it's a big step when you let the world know how great you are and you back it up."
Nebraska and Oklahoma were tied after the first rotation, as both teams tallied a 49.225. The teams were close after the second rotation. Oklahoma took the lead after the third rotation before Nebraska came back to score a 49.175 on the vault to earn the win. Oklahoma finished its final rotation on the floor, tallying a 48.625.
"We had a good last event," Kendig said. "I just think the key of the night was that we hit. If someone had a bad event, the others went after and picked them up. Historically, (Oklahoma) is a good floor team but they struggled and (freshman) Jennifer Lauer went in and did what she needed to do. We added a double-pike, double-tuck (to her routine) for the first time this season and she hit it."
NU freshman Jessie DeZiel earned her third all-around title of the season, finishing with a 39.5 score, while teammate Emily Wong was second (39.450) and Lora Evenstad third (39.325).
