Nebraska's Maddie Harris is heading to the national meet after finishing second Thursday in the women's javelin at the NCAA Outdoor West Regional in Sacramento, California.
Harris' throw of 186 feet, 1 inch trailed only the 189-foot throw by UTEP's Arianne Morais. Harris, a two-time Big Ten javelin champion, finished second at last year's outdoor NCAA championships.
Harris' teammate Rhema Otabor also qualified for the national meet with a 175-2 throw. She finished fourth at last year's championships while competing for FIU.
On Wednesday, Husker men's javelin throwers Arther Petersen and Dash Sirmon finished first and second to qualify. Jonah Wilson and Maxwell Otterdahl finished eighth and ninth to qualify in the men's shot put. Till Steinforth qualified sixth in the men's long jump. Nick Bryant advanced in the men's 400 meters.
